Nectar Robbers

I used gouache in my artwork, “Nectar Robbers”, depict flowers with human expressions more complex than just sadness, being pollinated by bees. This represents the dichotomy of bees who damage flowers by pollination & bees who don't, reflecting the contrast between consensual actions and rape. I used the analogy of flowers to make the abstract concept into tangible imagery without sensationalizing or distastefully illustrating the issue. The color scheme with the vivid blue background references Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers”, to show the normalcy of rape culture; It’s not until you take a deeper look that you begin to see the corruption.
